HOPES BEHIND GRILLS: The Story Untold
Grills are like barriers that stifles someone’s dream in life. A chain that hinders our journey to succeed.
This irony negates the situation of a 12-year old boy named Dante experience blessing in disguise after glancing between grills of the window pane where the principal encourage him to begin its educational path in Kindergarten.
“ I ask him if what is he doing beside the window pane?” said Madam Alma principal of the school.
That simple question open her heart when the boy replied and said, “Gusto ko po kasing mag-aral gaya nila”.
Like a mother instinct, Madam Alma decided to enrol him in the school and promise to prepare the papers needed in order for him to begin schooling.
His track is not yet finished because he will be exposed to criticisms. Despite the fact that his overage being a kinder pupil and schooling is still need financial support, his destiny doesn’t stop him to dream big. The principal gives him school materials which he can used .
The glance behind the grills is like a glance of light to reach his dream.
He was raised by his father who supposed to be a street sweeper and a housewife mother. He always goes school without a single penny in his pocket which puzzles the mind of majority if how this boy survive in the whole day.
Many student notice that in order for him to eat, he tried to help other pupils in sweeping the surroundings, watering the plants and cleaning the classrooms. Its like dealing with a bigger favour.
He has 8 siblings but some of them already got married . He is not a typical student, at very age he experience to bear the consequences brought by poverty.
“Kahit mahirap po kami hindi ko po pinaghihinayang mag-aral kasi ito ang maaring magiging pag-asa namin sa buhay.”
Filled in spirit with solid determination makes him to grip on his vision—to escape from poverty.
He is good in doing household chores helping his younger brothers and sisters in the absence of his parents during their work. But the privilege bestowed on him is like one’s in blue moon.
Now he joins the kinder class under Madam Mangilit and as you sneak on the window glancing him singing and dancing and enjoying every lessons .
“Pagtapak ko palang sa loob ng klasrum, ibang sigla ang naramdaman ko at ditto ko nasabi na gusto ko talagang mag-aral.” Dante added.

“Kami ay masayang pamilya noon”, this is the first statement of a 12-year transferee student who hails from Malainen-Bago Elementary School who was named Ava.
In an odd way of living, she is not that typical pupil who get whatever they wanted. Behind those smiles stretched to every pupil around her conceal a story that no one could ever dreamt of.
“Masakit sa damdamin, malungkot at maraming mang-aapi sa’yo”.
Unfortunately, she was raised from a broken family that witness how playful this world to be.
Despite the problem that beholds her life she continue her dream for her brothers and sisters.
“ Magsumikap sa buhay para sa kinabukasan ng inyong sarili kahit na ikaw nalang mag-isa”
Easing her baggage inside, she is filled with encouragement and be a good example to others.
She transferred to CAES because her aunt passed away leading to one of her heartbreaks. She feels alone that time and thinking that no one will be her helping hands but head held high she continue to live to the fullest.
“ Sa bawat pagsubok, kailangan mong magpatuloy, sa bawat pagdapa, kailangan mong bumangon; sa bawat luha kailanagan mong punasin, dahil ang Diyos naghihintay lamang saatin.” Ava expounded.
She is refined by his experiences which leads her to become a better person.
Now, Ava is in the fifth grade trying to perform well like what she did in her previous standing who tops third. Doubling her efforts in doing assignments, projects and other requirements.
New friends , life and ways, A girl who is broken before now become source of encouragement that makes other people believe the that she can. By the support given to her by the Lord keeps her stronger and tougher each day.
