Long time ago, Caut is the place where most people living are Ilocano’. During        these days, there was no other supply of water yet except the river – no pumps, no artesian wells or faucets.

                        The history of the Barangay lies on a funny legend and whether story is true or not still every resident of Barangay at present in believing this is “HOW CAUT GOT ITS NAME”.

                        Once upon a time, a woman was taking a bath in the river one day. She was on a somewhat held suit that a man passing by notices her. He was attracted and came near the woman and suddenly a loud shrill cry was heard “KINAUT-AK”. The shameful experience of the Ilocano woman scattered like a fire throughout the place.

                        Since that very time of the term “CAUT” lingered in their minds and was never forgotten. The legend became a brief history from generation to generation until this Barangay was named after it.

                        As of 1979 – 2013, Barangay Caut has a total population 2,665 people and a total area 750.032 square meters.

                           Caut is 4 ½ kilometers away from from the Poblacion, 23.5 from provincial capitol; 56 km from the regional center, 121 from the Metro Manila, 5.2 km from Bantog, 3.1 km from Comillas, 1.5 km from Paludpud and 3.3 km from Balanoy.
